The Italian Lonely Planet recommends the Western Cyclades as the ideal destination for a week-long off-season vacation to hundreds of thousands of travelers, offering them a “taste” of the real Cyclades with dreamy panoramas, excellent beaches, and unique local culture. Among the top three islands of the Western Cyclades, Sifnos holds the first place, followed by Milos and Folegandros.
“Whitewashed villages placed like pearls along the island’s ridge, the shimmering light, and the turquoise waters are the trademark of Sifnos. This Cycladic island of harmony is a wonderful and refined destination, despite its rugged appearance. The slopes of the central hills are home to terraced olive groves and an abundance of almond trees, oleanders, and aromatic herbs. Every entrance to the island is ‘bathed’ by a blue sea and reveals a stunning view of the Aegean. Today, Sifnos is internationally known for its pottery and unique cuisine,” notes the popular Italian media outlet.
“The land, the clay, and the local cuisine come together with Cycladic beauty to create a magical place that can be enjoyed in all its glory, even after August. In fact, every September, we celebrate culture and gastronomy through an established festival,” adds the Deputy Mayor of Tourism for the Municipality of Sifnos, Giannis Rafeletos.
The 16th Cycladic Gastronomy Festival “Nikolaos Tselementes” will be held on September 19, 20, and 21, bringing together unique flavors, aromas, and traditions. During the three days of the festival, the public will have the opportunity to watch live cooking demonstrations, participate in cooking workshops, and enjoy traditional music and dance performances.
